Wallpaper, typewriter, spray paint, sewing machine
Initially, these were found objects—spray-painted historical wallpapers in buildings slated for demolition that were peeling away from the walls, bearing witness to decay, life, and the spirit of the times. The aim is to uncover layers of traces and overlays and to transform them anew through artistic practice.
Fixed onto sheets of paper and annotated with text fragments, titles, and references to location and theme, the collage process begins. The letters on the typewriter display varying shades of black; partly legible, partly nearly vanished or corrected, they arrange themselves on the sheet, avoiding precise alignment. Framed on the wall, the absence of a right angle is unsettling; the longing for a supposed straight line invites corrective glances and raises the question of a harmonious horizontal line.
Over the course of the series, the spray marks have evolved into independent backgrounds as well as foreground interventions. Injuries to the paper can be detected through punctures or tears. The partially overlapping stitches from a sewing machine appear not only firm but also graphic. The yarn and thread remnants, in black but also neon tones, blend into the overall composition.
